Our first link is with Meinrad Berger who was born in 1808 in Zell, Baden. He married Katharina Trefzger Bruegger in Wehr, Baden.
Catharine had married Johann Bruegger and they had 3 daughters before he died. Katharina had been married to Johann Bruegger. They had 3 girls before Johann Bruegger died in 1834. Meinrad married Katharina. Meinrad and Catharine had their first son Johann in 1837. Their second son Leander was born in 1844. In 1853 Meinrad, Katharina, John, Leander and Nauni, Theresia and Karolina left Wehr, Baden and immigrated to Cincinati, Ohio, USA.
Johann or John Berger (as we know him), married Mary Elizabeth Metz on 2/4/1865. They lived in downtown Cincinnati, but Mary wasn't happy there. She wanted to move out in the country closer to her parents, so later in 1865 John bought 8 1/2 acres out west in Green Township on Lick Run. Mary's parents lived in the 2nd farm west of John's property. On 12/18/1865 John signed the deed to purchase 'Berger Hill'.
Mary Elizabeth Metz' parents were Jacob and Josepha Metz.
John and Mary had 8 children on 'Berger Hill':
John Leander, Anna, Amanda, George, Otilia or 'Tillie', Teresa, Agatha, and Joseph.
John's father Meinrad moved in with John, Mary and their family in 1881. About 1 year later on April 14, 1882 Meinrad died.
'Nauni' Maria Anna Bruegger (John's oldest half sister) was a resident on Berger Hill for many years. I suspect she moved in with John and Mary when Meinrad moved to the Hill. 'Nauni' lived with the family until she died in 1900.
John and Mary's children's big weddings started in 1895 when Amanda married John Eckerle.
In 1897 George Berger married Nellie Trefzger.
In 1899 Tillie married Fred Trefzger.
And in 1905 Teresa married Jack Sheblessy.
