John W. Grawey, who was struck by a locomotive on the T.P. & W. tracks at Fairbury on Sept. 14th, died at Proctor hospital in this city Saturday morning at 8:10 o'clock of tetanus, induced by terrible injuries to one knee.
He was an employee of the road, and in attempting to step up on to the footboard of the locomotive, was struck and rolled under it. While no bones were broken he was terribly lacerated and one knee crushed. After being brought to this city he seemed to recover rapidly until tetanus set in and he rapidly grew worse.
He was twenty-five years and ten months of age and leaves a widow and two small children. Both his father and mother, with six brothers and two sisters survive. All are residents of Peoria excepting the eldest brother, who is a farmer near Farber, Mo.
Funeral services will be held from the residence, 503 Hurlburt street Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, to St. Joseph's church. Internment will be at St. Joseph's cemetery. -- Peoria Ex. (Examiner)
The deceased is well known in Tell City where he was born and lived until about 8 or 10 years of age when he moved with his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Grawey, to Peoria, Ill., where he has resided ever since.
