The first Metz Farm family immigrated from Hayna, Pfalz. Hayna is a very small town west of the Rhine River. The area is known for it's excellent wines. Hayna is also known for its's tobacco. The area has had a turbulant past.
Our Metz ancestors have been traced back to Joachim Metz who was born in 1633 and died in 1699.

Christine and John Heatherman just returned from a visit to Hayna,
Germany, the Metz family's home town.
They were thrilled to find a residence that was built by
George Martin Metz (Christine's direct Metz ancestor) in 1802.
They were astonished to find that there was a Metz living in the home.
Hayna is a very small town with less than 2,000 people. Christine said it is
immaculately clean and well groomed. All of the sidewalks are paved,
even the back alleys are paved.
The Catholic Church is the Holy Trinity Church. The microfilmed birth
records date back to the mid 1600s.
Many of the large old homes have very large barns built right behind the
homes. Christine was very surprised to find that the barns are tobacco
barns. Hayna in the second largest tobacco growing center in Germany.
The tobacco is handled by the firm 'Metz KG'. The firm leases the barns
from the home-owners.
