Joan Eckerle Bengert
1929 - 2013
   


Joan was born on September 5,1929 .

Joan’s mother died on December 29,1929 about 3 1/2 months after Joan was born.

Joan and her three brothers were raised by their grandmother Catherine E. Fisher and her husband William C. Fisher.

In the 1930 census Joan and her brothers are living with their grandmother Catherine E Fisher 49, William Fisher 64, and they had a son Calvin 27, at 2650 Riverside Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio.


In the 1940 census Joan and her brothers are living with the Fishers at 5039 Sumpter Ave.


In 1946 and ’47 Joan is in the yearbook and attending for Our Lady of Angels High School in St. Bernard, OH.

Joan married George Bengert,Jr. on June 28,1948. Joan and George had 4 boys” George,3rd called ‘Buddy’, Terrance called ‘Terry’, Steven Tracy called ‘Tracy’and Jon Micheal called ‘Mick’. They lived the early years together on McFarlan Road in Westwood and had a large horse farm at the end of the road. They lived there until the mid 1960s.

Joan and George were very interested in horses. They were very active with horse shows in the tri-state area including showing in and running various fairs such as the Harvest Home Fair and the Hamilton County Fairs. They rode and owned many different breeds of horses and they also boarded about 15 horses which had to be cared for daily. ( Joan & George’s 4 boys were a big help in caring for the horses.)

Joan worked for Doc Rusk heating and Air Conditioning from a young age till her retirement.

George was hard worker. He worked 2 jobs plus took care of their farm. When he started not feeling well they downsized and sold the McFarlan road home and acreage to Buddy LaRosa, Cincinnati’s west side Pizza King.

From McFarlan Road they moved to 3030 Epworth Court where George Bengert,Jr died December 11, 1965.
