Wally Sheblessy's "Beginnings"

A Brief Narrative of Our Beginnings:

Early in the year of our Lord, 1865, John Berger married Mary Elizabeth Metz. In the same year, they bought 8 1/2 acres on (2567) Queen City Ave., the site of their future home. In 1895, they bought the adjoining 18 1/2 acres across the creek. The combination was known as Berger Hill.

In 1895, approximately 3/4 of an acre was given to their daughter, Amanda Berger at the time of her marriage to John Eckerle, where they built their home. (This was later sold to Elsa Trefzger Meyer Gervers in 1951).

John Berger died at the age of 56 in 1893. His wife Mary died in 1927 at the age of 85. Five years later (in 1932), the surviving children George Berger, Joe Berger, Anna Berger, Amanda Eckerle, Otillia Trefzger, and Teresa Sheblessy incorporated the estate, now known as Berger Hill, Inc. All of this is the backround which leads up to the 130 year re-union of Berger Hill on June 30 and July 1,1995.
