German Unification
Otto von Bismark, chief minister of Prussia, was the architect of German unification. By maneuvering the German states into 3 wars, all oc which they won, he was able to dramatically increase the size of the territory under his control. In 1871 all this territory was unified by Bismark and William I as the German Empire.
